The End of an Era, and a Beginning

Dear Friends,

The 2024–25 concert season will be our final year with our tremendous artistic director, Ho-Yin Kwok. It will be hard to say good-bye when May comes, but we are so fortunate to have had eight years with Ho-Yin—including four involving him flying to Minnesota from Kentucky and now New York—and ultimately this will be a year of celebrating our obviously happy and successful collaboration.

The board of directors has launched a national search for the next artistic director and conductor of the Mississippi Valley Orchestra, whose first season will be 2025–26. After nearly a decade of notable achievement and growth for the orchestra and within the organization, this will be a very desirable position. Please share the listing with anyone who would be a strong candidate. We are looking for someone who is passionate about their career who will continue our artistic trajectory and who will immediately become a committed member and representative of our dedicated, welcoming community—whether they live in or move to Minnesota or not.

And please join us, over the course of the year, in thanking Ho-Yin for what he has accomplished with us. Naturally, there will be a party, too.

We are also looking forward to the next era. Based on our fantastic experiences with the guest conductors Ho-Yin has brought in over the years, we are eager to begin meeting the excellent candidates—the creative, thoughtful, and energetic people—who find our mission, culture, and direction compelling.

Thank you for being part of the wonderful MVO community.

With gratitude,

The MVO Board of Directors
