MVO Chamber Players

About Us

The MVO Chamber Players is led by musicians of the Mississippi Valley Orchestra. Rooted in the same ethos of collaboration and collegiality, the ensemble provides opportunities for musicians to explore the rich and diverse world of chamber music repertoire beyond the orchestral canon. Membership is open to those willing to dedicate the time, preparation, and effort needed to achieve a high standard of musicality. Rehearsals are arranged on an ad hoc basis throughout the year with respect to everyone’s schedules.

Concerts are presented throughout the year as part of the regular MVO season and are always free to attend. They are intentionally designed to be shorter bite-sized programs, usually around 60 minutes. Through these performances, the MVO Chamber Players aim to make chamber music more accessible while also supporting MVO’s nonprofit mission.

Without the presence of a conductor, chamber music challenges musicians to become more sensitive to one another. The musicians must rely more on active listening, visual communication, and shared musical understanding to play cohesively, with extra consideration toward balance, blend, rhythmic unity, phrasing, and responsiveness. These experiences help the musicians grow not only individually, but also as stronger orchestral players.
