Plan Your Visit

Welcome to the Mississippi Valley Orchestra!

If you’ve found your way to this page, chances are you’re planning to join us for an upcoming concert — and we’re thrilled to have you!

We’re passionate about making our concerts welcoming and enjoyable. Everything in this guide is based on real questions from attendees both new and experienced, so you’re in good company!

Still wondering about something we haven’t covered? Feel free to reach out — we’d love to hear from you through our Contact Us page, or email if you prefer!

  • We perform at several venues throughout the Twin Cities area, including, but not limited to:

All of our venues offer free parking unless otherwise specified.

Be sure to check each concert listing in our season schedule for the specific location.

  • Yes, all of our concerts are free and open to the public! It’s part of our mission to make orchestral music accessible to everyone.

The orchestra is funded by donation by our membership, our guests, and various fundraising efforts.

    Thank you for supporting us!

  • We recommend arriving 15-30 minutes before the start time to park, get settled in, and read some program notes. The opening notes in a classical music concert is a magical moment you won’t want to miss!

Concert times may vary by date and venue. Please refer to our season schedule for detailed information.

  • We sometimes offer pre- or post-concert talks or meets with audience members. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the music!

Stay close to our concert announcements and season schedule.

Sometimes, members of the orchestra might be playing in the hallways!

  • There is no dress code for our guests. Please wear whatever makes you comfortable!

  • Seating is general admission unless otherwise noted. Arrive early to grab your preferred spot!

  • Most of our venues do not allow eating or drinking in the inner chamber, sanctuary, or performance space. However, food and drink are typically allowed in the surrounding spaces.

We typically offer homemade fudge or other snacks for purchase during intermission.

Water fountains and/or bottle refilling stations are typically available at our venues.

  • Traditionally, audiences wait to clap until the end of the piece, rather than after each movement (section) of a piece, even if there is a pause. The moment of silence between movements help the music settle and give space for reflection before the next one begins. Movements are like chapters of a book! You’ll usually see the multiple movements numbered in the program.

That said, we’re relaxed about this. If you feel genuinely moved to applaud after a movement, feel free to do so! We love the appreciation!

If you’re unsure when the piece is over, a good trick is to keep an eye on the conductor, who will finally turn around to acknowledge the audience.
