Beethoven 7

Sunday, February 9, 2020 - 3 p.m.
Pre-concert talk - 2:15 p.m.

Augustana Lutheran Church
1400 S Robert St, West St Paul, MN 55118

Ho-Yin Kwok, conductor
Fanya Lin, piano

Orion Kim, student of Dr. Joseph Zins, winner of the St. Paul Piano Teachers Association Concerto Competition, piano

Xian Xinghai: Yellow River Piano Concerto
Camille Saint-
Saëns: Piano Concerto No. 2, Movement 1
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 7

For this concert, you will hear two amazing talents in concert with the Mississippi Valley Orchestra. Internationally renowned piano soloist Fanya Lin will perform the Yellow River Concerto, a piece commissioned by Madame Mao Tse Tung at the height of China’s Cultural Revolution. And thirteen-year-old Orion Kim, winner of the St. Paul Piano Teachers Association Concerto Competition, will dazzle you with his performance of the first movement of Saint-Saëns’s Second Piano Concerto.

And if that’s not enough, the orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. Writing during an extremely difficult time in his life, Beethoven was somehow able to create his most exuberant music.

If you’re in need of something to lift your spirits on a dreary winter’s day, this concert will do the trick. Come early for Artistic Director Ho-Yin Kwok’s 2:15 pre-concert talk. As always, admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted.
