That's right—the idea for this wintertime favorite came to composer Leroy Anderson during a heat wave in 1946. The winner of our popular season opening concert raffle (or their lucky friend or family member) will be our guest conductor for "Sleigh Ride" at our winter concert on December 2 at Augustana Lutheran Church in West St. Paul. No experience needed! The winner also gets a conducting lesson from our artistic director, Ho-Yin Kwok, which will be just about as much fun as the guest conducting gig itself. Fun fact: Unlike conducting it, playing the sleigh bells part in this piece is actually pretty hard. Ask the percussionists about it and they'll let you check out their sheet music. They might even let you make an attempt! |
